The South African runners, who already wore the Absa African Men's jerseys as the leading African men's team of the event, covered the last 45 km alone, winning stage number 5.
It was their first ever stage win at the Absa Cape Epic.

“This is a surreal feeling,” said Marco Joubert. “Halfway through the stage there were two climbs where I almost crashed, but I managed to resist and we went on. It is unreal and totally unexpected. I am so happy".

“The plan was to keep Speed Company Racing under control today,” said Andreas Seewald, who wore the yellow jersey. “They were taking a lot of risks and they managed to break us off. We had to work hard to get back. We drove well towards the end and gained another important second over our rivals ”.

Matt Beers, now second in the overall standings with partner Christoper Blevins, was happy with another good race, but clearly happy that a South African team won the stage. After crossing the finish line, he went straight to Joubert and Du Toit to congratulate them.
