XCE World Cup Standings in Sakarya -Turkey

The 2023 UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup took place in the beautiful city of Sakarya, Türkiye, for the first round of the season: Titouan Perrin-Ganier and Marion Fromberger win.

Gaia Tormena unlucky in the race: first in qualifying but then a contact put her out of action in the final and she had to settle for 4th place.

The women's finals began with a fierce battle for first place, with athletes battling for position from the start. The Italian athlete, Gaia Tormena put in a strong performance, starting brilliantly, but was closely followed by the German athlete, Marion Fromberger, who leapfrogged UCI World Champion Tormena in the first uphill section.

Tormena then tried to catch Fromberger, but Tormena went off course and Fromberger soloed to glory. Fromberger secured her first leader's jersey of the season, with Annemoon van Dienst holding off Didi de Vries for second place. UCI World Champion Gaia Tormena had to settle for fourth place. Iryna Popova from Ukraine rounded out the top five.

Perrin-Ganier's first UCI World Cup victory in the rainbow jersey

The qualifying time trials were closely contested, with riders vying for a place in the finals. Among them was the rider who set the fastest time, Frenchman Thibaut Kahlhoven. He put in a spectacular performance, showcasing his incredible skill and speed, as he did in Aalen last year. However, despite his best efforts, Kahlhoven failed to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

As the semi-finals began, the crowd was buzzing, eager to see Turkish athletes battle it out for first place. Despite their valiant efforts, the Turkish athletes faced tough challenges and failed to take the top spots in the semi-finals.

In the men's finals, the riders set off at a blistering pace, with the French rider, Titouan Perrin-Ganier, taking the lead early on and aiming for another win in Sakarya. The UCI World Champion emerged as the victor, crossing the finish line ahead of his teammate Simon Gegenheimer, and marked Perrin-Ganier's first UCI World Cup victory in the rainbow jersey. The French driver, Quentin Schrotzenberger, put in a solid performance, finishing in third place, while his compatriot, Eddy Steiblé, surprisingly finished in fourth place. The Estonian driver, Kirill Tarassov, completed the podium finishing in fifth place.
