Flyer, a Swiss company among the first in the world (if not the first) to produce electric bikes as far back as 1995. Historically, it has always been very strong in the Touring and Urban segment and all this experience has allowed it to launch into the world of mountain biking more technician. Let's get to know Flyer's all-mountain model, namely the Uproc3.
27,5 ”format, 140mm front and rear travel, with geometries that wink at stability. Before entering the technical characteristics of the vehicle, we wanted to show you the excellent Flyer guarantee on its products, one of the strong points of the Swiss brand: in fact we find 10 years on the frame, 3 years on the engine, display, battery charger for the MTB line (1 year of extension compared to the standard). While, just for info, there are 5 years on the City and Touring sector, Flyer uses both Bosch and Panasonic motors (on the Uproc3 model we only find Bosch motorization) and the batteries have the canonical 2-year warranty.

FEATURES
Just for information, the Uproc3 is compatible with a convenient Flyer luggage rack that can be easily integrated. The kinematics of the rear stay is particular and we are not used to seeing such high and curved chainstays: the advantages are to prevent the chain from touching the frame (more silent) and the problem of chain sucking is eliminated. Defects can relate to the bending of the frame on the movement but with the evolution of materials and geometries, we can limit the damage.
GEOMETRY
The Flyer geometries have an abundant rear stay combined with a reach which is also not contained which leads it to have an important wheelbase: rear of 465mm, reach 470mm and wheelbase that stops at 1242mm. The height from the ground is 344m (very low) while the vertical tube, very abundant, is 480mm. A fairly long but not very open steering geometry (66.5 °), in full Trail style anyway, not being an extreme bike (at Flyer we find the Uproc 6 and 7 as the most popular downhill models).
Sizes S, M, L (test), XL
Steering angle Inline
Vertical tube 480 mm
Head tube 140 mm
Rear wagon 465 mm
Wheelbase 1242 mm
Bottom bracket height 344 mm
Reach 470 mm
ECS - Elevated chain stay. The kinematics of the rear stay are reminiscent of many of the golden years of MTB and Flyer re-proposes this unusual design for modern times. FBS - Flyer Battery Shield. The battery cover has a magnetic closure and offers excellent protection for the PowerTube built-in battery, as well as quick battery changes.
VERSIONS AND COMPONENTS
The Uproc is found in 6 models: from Uproc3 4.10 to 8.70 (in test). The entry base (4.10) we find it proposed at 4299 € with a 500wh battery, Manitou Mattoc Comp fork and Fox Performance Float DPS Evol shock absorber (this shock absorber is found on all models). Going up we find the 4.15 (4599 €), the 6.30 (5099 €), the 6.50 (5299 €) and finally the 8.70 in test (5999 € and complete assembly on the last page of the test).
THE RESPONSE OF THE TEST
The Flyer immediately shows its excellent skills as a climber: on the other hand, the not exasperated geometry and the 140mm excursion (combined with a not too short wagon), make it stable and precise in the technical sections. The suspension has a fairly linear behavior which is therefore easily exploitable right away even by not too experienced bikers. In case of aggressive use, however, call for a more specific shock absorber for the descent to make it more sensitive and enjoyable, especially on the bottom, very impetuous for the not very progressive compression curve. We give credit to Flyer that mounts the Fox Performance DPS Evol also on the base assembly (4.10), therefore quality assemblies. The scheme works very well under the effect of braking, making the Uproc3 comfortable even in the presence of those bikers who occasionally use the brakes (it being understood that this is a feature that any biker, from beginner to expert, appreciates). Thanks to Fox's very decisive hydraulic braking, it allows us to fully enjoy it even in the smoothest and most flowing situations.
Schwalbe's semi plus tires did not convince, both as a section and as a compound: the wide DT Swiss rims call a wider or more specific section (think of the Maxxis WT) because, in this case, we find ourselves a tire that is too squared that does not it has bite in case of creases of a certain level. And then the rim is too visible and you risk easy blockages in case of an aggressive / Enduro use of our Uproc. The Bosch motor is flawless: perhaps less "modern" than other motors, but super reliable and precise. There are 3 modes with the addition of the e-MTB which replaces the previous Sport mode according to the pressure exerted on the pedal, the assistance automatically adapts progressively to your riding mode. The motor supports the cyclist by always delivering the right power, even at low pedaling frequencies. The feeling is really optimal even if it tends to consume a lot of battery, since in any case in the sections where we “give it”, it goes towards maximum power (Turbo). As mentioned at the beginning of the test, the greatest advantage is not in the use of the Uproc3 at maximum speeds, therefore stability, but in uphill and slow and technical descents (handling): the not very contained wagon allows for a rear axle ( especially uphill) always glued to the ground, with the tendency of the front not to rear up, thanks also to the 140mm travel which is not exaggerated.

Verdict
RELIABLE AND SOLID E-MTB
An excellent e-mtb uphill and fun downhill. Worth noting is the excellent warranty (10 years on the frame and 3 on electrical components) and Bosch motorization, synonymous with reliability. A bike that emerges in the technical climbs and slow and tortuous descents. A non-extreme geometry that allows it to be driven well even without too aggressive riding, which therefore is well suited to most bikers. Her climbing skills are excellent with a stable carriage and a precise front that does not tend to rear up.

• Extended 10 year warranty on the frame and 3 years on part electric (motor, battery and display). • Excellent climber. | • Roofs not up to par, both as grip and as section (the wide circle call more sections wide). • Little shock absorber incisive in an Enduro use / aggressive bike. |
