In recent weeks we have published on our website the presentation of the helmet that Oakley has dedicated to trail biking and hiking. A cutting-edge product, with some technical choices that we will talk about that we have found truly innovative and developed in collaboration with the three-time world champion Greg Minnaar
THE BUILDING

One of the features that leap to the eye are the mechanical hooks to house the glasses, designed to guarantee stability even when you decide to pedal without them, which together with the adjustable visor to allow the insertion of the mask, guarantee maximum freedom even during more challenging climbs.
The retention of the helmet at the nape of the neck is guaranteed by the system buoy 360. While for impact protection they opted for technology mips, now a must in this sector.
To protect the forehead from sweat, Oakley has designed a silicone band that isolates the forehead from the eyes, guaranteeing maximum reliability in every situation.
A helmet that summarizes many of the cutting-edge technological solutions and that with the silicone protection and the retention device of the glasses stands out from their competitors
PROOF

As always, the analysis begins with the appearance and presentation. Oakley has always stood out for its attention to detail and for being a leader in the sports life style sector. Also in this case the product in question has a captivating line, balanced in the forms. Every detail is designed to be efficient and give elegance to the product. We tested the military green version and the matte glossy combination, with the camouflage profile are spot on.
But speaking of a helmet we must go beyond appearance and verify the functionality and safety of the product. The fit is comfortable and although there is less padding than other products, we did not feel annoying points of contact. The buoy retention system is precise and once adjusted it keeps the shell perfectly firm to the head. The visor has an excellent shape, even in the fully lowered position it does not bother the view during the descents. Well the containment strap and the silicone sweatband, which in addition to ensuring protection from the drops that often fall on the eyes, also helps to stabilize the helmet. The goggle positioning device proved useful. We also used the DRT 5 in some mountain tours and during the long moments of portage the possibility of positioning the glasses in a safe and comfortable way was an extra detail.
PROJECTED IMPACT
A well thought out product that ranks among the most valid in the sector, both for the technological choices adopted and for the line. The only detail to point out is the scarce presence of padding elements; in our case there were no problems, but not all heads are the same and the insertion of protection elements would be a detail to be evaluated.
OUT FIT
As you can see from the video and images, we also tried the entire proposal that Oakley has designed for MTB and especially for all mountain. the trail short pants, the ss tech lee t-shirt and the windproof wind jacket showed an excellent fit, a comfortable movement and a remarkable adaptability to situations. the transpiration of the shirt is very good, even in the scorching heat it has been able to expel the sweat leaving the skin relatively dry. the wind jacket should be interpreted as an emergency windbreaker, one of the light, space-saving ones that serve to protect in emergency situations, it should not be confused with trilaminate shells with 10.000 or more columns. finally the trousers, with great comfort and a top fit, to review the positioning of the pockets, excellent from an aesthetic point of view but impractical and the length, which does not cover the knee pad as in most mountain trousers. But overall a combo of valid and comfortable products, which wink at style, as the US brand has accustomed us to.
