MTB knee pads with steel protector and Pro-Shape 2.0 technology. Higher resistance but excellent pedalability: these are the characteristics described by Dainese.
FEATURES
The Dainese Rival Pro knee pads bring the protection of steel to the world of mountain biking, which together with the flexibility and breathability of the Pro-Shape 2.0 technology guarantees an excellent degree of freedom of movement because, as you know, you also have to pedal with these knee pads.
The steel plate at the center of the knee, inspired by the sliders developed by Dainese for the MotoGP ™ suits, offers superior protection against perforation from sharp objects. The main protector in Pro-Shape 2.0, offers great flexibility and protection thanks to the construction in carbo-elastomer inspired by the geometries of auxetic materials present in nature. Ventilation and comfort at the highest levels in every situation, thanks to the structure open on 45% of the entire surface. The external protective bolsters also provide additional protection for the knee in the event of a slip. Elastic on the calf for added stability and extra wide elastics with silicone tabs.
THE PROTECTION OF METAL
The metal plate in the center of the protector, derived from Dainese sliders designed for MotoGP ™ rider suits, offers superior protection against frontal impacts and sharp objects. In addition, it facilitates sliding in the event of a fall, reducing the risk of triggering dangerous rolls
SHAPE 2.0
The Pro-Shape 2.0 protector, inspired by the geometries of natural auxetics, follows the movements of the knee, dissipates the energy of shocks and expands in all directions in the event of an impact. The external protective bolsters offer additional protection in the event of a slip. A hybrid construction with integrated technologies to achieve the highest level of safety. Approval: CE EN 1621.1 Lev 2
45% VENTILATED SURFACE
The structure of the Pro-Shape 2.0 protector ensures maximum protection with an open and ventilated surface on 45% of the entire coverage area. Together with the sock in light and resistant breathable fabric, it allows you to always have ideal ventilation, in every phase of the activity
FREE TO RIDE
The Rival Pro knee brace, with its Pro-Shape 2.0 Hybrid construction, is designed to face every phase of the activity with maximum freedom. Offering the highest level of protection, without the need to lower or remove it while pedaling, climbing, transferring.
RESPONSE OF THE TEST
The Dainese Rival Pro Knee Guards give a feeling of excellent build quality: the wraparound design is very comfortable and has no annoying stitches or seams. The elastic calf straps cannot be adjusted but are well positioned and elastic offering a great fit (if you don't get the wrong size). The knee pads can be easily worn during long rides without causing discomfort and, on spring days, they enjoy excellent breathability.
You must not go wrong in size and it is recommended to try them on first: being a “tube” structure, the size must fit perfectly. Dainese has an extensive size chart on their website if you really don't get a chance to try them on. Some prominent athletes told us that it happened to hit the metal support on the frame but honestly, in our tests, we did not notice this problem. Maybe it depends on the style you have in pedaling.
In case metal is not your thing, keep in mind that there is the Trail Skins Pro model which is basically the same but without the metal plate (90 €).
PROJECTED IMPACT
Dainese is an authority when it comes to protection and these knee pads rise to the occasion. Excellent enduro protection for those who want protection but also good pedaling properties: I see them very well from a racing point of view. There are no adjustments to make up for size errors or sudden fat gains during the Christmas period but, if there are no middle factors, the ergonomics are at the highest levels.
PRICE AND SIZES
The Dainese Rival Pro knee pads are available in 5 different sizes, from XS to XL, at the price of 130 €. They can be purchased at official retailers or on Dainese e-commerce.
