In this atypical winter we tested a device that could change the way of interpreting the shifting for quite a long time. It is easy shift, a device of the French HXR, which moves the freewheel from the rear block to the front chainring.

A simple change that brings undoubted advantages in the shifting that in this way can be made even without pedaling, in fact with this transformation the chain continues to turn and therefore it is possible to select the ratios even in exhaust. The technical explanation is in the exploded view of the photo, let's instead discuss the sensations of the test.
From the point of view of pedaling, nothing changes, excellent engagement of the front free wheel and fluidity of movement. There is no particular friction and apparently it seems to ride a normal bike. Things change when you want to change your relationship. Even uphill or on the flat, if you are not in a race fight, just lighten the pedaling for a fraction of a second and tac the game is done. This way you can imagine making an effortless shift even while climbing.

But the real news is that you can change in all situations where you don't pedal; rock garden with sharp curves from which you always come out with a too hard ratio, compressions where from the maximum descent you pass to the maximum climb in a sudden way and all the situations that require rapid gear changes, such as the exit from the curves in the xc. In all these moments, the easy shift proved to be able to give a clear advantage from the point of view of driving precision and safeguarding the chain from sudden jerks. Even during particularly bumpy sections, the chain always stays on axis and the shifting is precise, in no situation has it happened that there was a chain jump. If the constant movement of the chain allows the gearbox to stay on axis and reduces the typical oscillations of rough sections, it must be said that the wear of the components will increase a little, even if it must be said that within a 2h output the stretches where the pedals stop and the chain will continue to turn can affect for about 10'-15 ', unless you are vans all day. It is clear that it will be necessary to always have the chain in perfect condition, the gearbox adjusted to perfection and a well positioned and generously sized chain guard. In fact, if the advantages while driving are undeniable, it is also true that it is necessary to avoid the fall of the chain in every way, since everything would continue to turn and risk breaking the gearbox pulleys. With the crowns with high profile teeth and with the latest generation gearboxes this possibility is reduced to a minimum, but today this is the only negative aspect that must be considered.
PRO: easy shifting in all conditions and effortless
AGAINST: increased wear of components and attention to adjustments
