We started using this short-sleeved shirt in spring, continued in summer (yes, even when the heat was oppressive) and we are continuing to use it even in this early autumn. Initially as a single item, now as a second layer, combined with a shell or a long-sleeved shirt.
The construction
The Swedish brand Osprey focuses a lot on theenvironmental sustainability, and this jersey is no exception. Made from a blend of merino wool and recycled polyester, it offers a great combination of comfort and respect for the environment. It comes in four colors, adapting to different styles and uses.
Let's get to know Merino wool better
Its name comes from the breed of sheep that produces it, the merino. It is very valuable, fine, soft and with particular characteristics.
It has ancient origins and over time has found the best habitat to develop in Australia, where there are currently the largest farms.
But what are the characteristics that give this wool such particular properties? Its soft and curled structure guarantee unique qualities. Its softness gives comfort in contact with the skin, while its particular structure guarantees excellent thermoregulation in every season. In the cold months it is able to retain body heat by creating a sort of air chamber, while in the summer months in the warmer months its particular ability to absorb humidity allows it to avoid the formation of bad odors and keep the garment in contact with the skin dry.

The test
As mentioned initially we started testing this shirt in spring and now that we are in autumn we are continuing to wear it. The intended use changes, but the excellent breathability makes it a very versatile garment.

Wool in summer? Yes!
It might seem like a contradiction, to use a merino wool jersey in the summer? Instead, the excellent breathability and the ability to dry quickly, which we mentioned above, have made it a top product even during a hot summer like the one just ended. At the end of demanding days, with differences in altitude and fatigue, the sensation was that of having a garment just worn, dry and without that 'scent' that is often felt at the end of an excursion..
When the temperature dropped it continued to be a very valid product, combined with a vest, it allowed us to maintain an excellent thermal balance even when the mercury column dropped below 15°.

Now that the temperature has dropped further, we are using it as a first layer. Its ability to expel sweat and dry quickly make it an excellent garment to keep in contact with the skin, using a light jacket or a shell like the one in the photo.
Conclusions
A 3-season garment, which thanks to the qualities of merino wool manages to maintain excellent thermal regulation from spring to autumn. A product that dries quickly, reducing the sensation of humidity and the drop in temperature even after intense climbs.
It certainly must be part of the kit of all those bikers who, like us, live off road 365 days a year.
