Just like last year, Aalen offered a very fast street circuit through the city centre, packed with a crazed crowd for race ambassadors Simon Gegenheimer and Marion Fromberger. Some huge and scary obstacles and scorching heat seemed to be the biggest challenges of the day. But then the rain came: a summer downpour turned things upside down, in every possible way.

During the qualifying time trials, everyone stayed dry. Nils-Obed Riecker took a surprising TT victory for his home team, the Mountainbike Racing Team. Meanwhile in the women's qualifiers, Gaia Tormena once again showed her winning legs. No one could have suspected what would happen next.
Because then things started to get rainy. On the treacherous damp city streets, home heroes Gegenheimer and Fromberger both hit the deck. Despite a crash in the quarterfinals, 'Mustache Man' Gegenheimer still made it to the final heats, finishing fourth. Fromberger also had to settle for fourth place after crashing in the women's final while she was leading the race.

However, both victories still went to Germany: a strong Felix Klausmann took control in the men's final heat, winning solo. Titouan Perrin-Ganier and Kilian Demangeon from France took second and third place. In the women's race, Lia Schrievers secured her first UCI World Cup victory with a strong sprint to the finish, leapfrogging Tormena. The Italian finished second, Lina Huber from Germany third.
