Excellent start for the two Italians Gabriel Borre and Elian Paccagnella who pass 3rd and 5th after the launch lap. The Dutch Bouten responds to the first attack by the Dane Philipsen, but after a few bends it is Paccagnella who takes second place in the race, behind the Dane. At the end of the first lap, the blue passes second at 12" from the Dane, 18" on Borre, 4th.

Lap after lap, Philipsen increases his advantage more and more but Elian doesn't give up and keeps in second position. In the fight for the bronze between the French Rouffiac and the Canadian Ackert, the penultimate lap sees a strong recovery by the Canadian who moves to just 10" from the 18-year-old from Bolzano, who however holds on and takes home, in disbelief, a splendid gold medal silver. Also finishing in the Top-10 is Gabriel Borre, 9th.
Paccagnella: “An indescribable joy and I thank all those who have allowed me to get here and be able to experience it. I had a good start and tried to make a difference on the climbs even if the Dane immediately showed that he had an extra gear. Then during the race I realized that I would have to manage my strength. I saw the Canadian come back and trusted what Mirko told me. I've never really worried about missing out on runners-up and now I'm enjoying this medal.”
For the boy from Bolzano it is a week of great emotions: on 7 August he celebrated his coming of age here in Scotland, today he puts a medal around his neck at the world championship: "I couldn't have given myself a better gift". (the podium: photo Mondini).

JUNIOR WOMEN
The race was dominated by the Canadian Holmgren who, right from the first lap, took the lead from her compatriot Lowe without losing it again. Behind them, the group engaged in the fight for the podium numbered seven athletes, including our Corvi and Lanfranchi.
Exactly in the middle of the race, the forcing of the Czech Hanakova and the Polish Grzegorzewska splits the chasing group and makes any hope of a medal vanish.
The Canadian Holgrem wins over her compatriot Lowe, and the Polish Grzegorzewska completes the podium. The two blues return home with an excellent 7th place for the very young Lanfranchi (2nd in the 2006 class). and 11th for Corvi, in a bad day. The other Italians: Giada Martinoli 16^ at 5'34”, Marika Celestino 36^ at 10'38”.

Lanfranchi, 7th: “I'm very happy. This was the goal but I could see it very far away. It was a really tough race but I'm very happy. I struggled a bit downhill with the roots because it was really technical, but uphill I felt very good. This result is just the beginning, but I hope to continue like this and continue to do better. The two Canadians have been really strong, but we're still very young, there's still time and this is a spur to grow."
Corvi, 11th: “I'm disappointed, today I really had a bad day. I tried to grit my teeth but I was really in pain especially in the last part of the journey, that wasn't the goal but these days happen and I hope to reconfirm myself as soon as possible. I started strong in front of the group, but I immediately understood that my leg wasn't the one of the best days I suffered right away I was a bit like an elastic, I recovered in the more technical parts but where I had to push my leg didn't turn well and I continued to break away and so on until the end. In the last lap I paid and that's how it went.”

Martinoli, 16th: “I didn't have great ambitions, I was leaving to have fun and gain experience being in my first year in the category, so I'm happy with my race, I was doing quite well uphill and was able to recover, I had more difficulties downhill and even in the stretches of I was struggling on the plain, but I'm still happy with my performance."
Celestino Marika, 36th: “I arrived at the world championship with a great desire to do well and a little anxiety being at my first world championship, but I set off with grit and conviction. On the second lap I crashed and having a physical consequence and a mechanical problem (puncture) I lost a lot of positions and then I tried to recover but by now it was too difficult to go and do something big. My goal was to finish the race and bring home my first world championship"
