Immediately at the starting signal, van der Poel took off and decided to leave, with young Pim Ronhaar being the only one who managed to follow his compatriot at a distance. The moment of pursuit immediately arrived: van Aert, Vanthourenhout, van der Haar and Vermeersch.
While van der Poel continued to increase his lead lap after lap with Ronhaar as the leading pursuer, van der Haar managed to distance himself from van Aert's group in the background. Vanthourenhout got a puncture and therefore lost ground. Halfway through the race, van Aert seemed to have found some good pedal stroke and closed the gap on van der Haar. Positions will not change for the rest of the race.
Another victory for van der Poel, protagonist of an uninterrupted series of victories. Pim Ronhaar confirmed his form and finished with a nice second place, van Aert completed the podium.
