More mud in Cortina for the Coppa Italia stage Downhill

Cortina D'Ampezzo on 10 and 11 June – The second stage of COPPA ITALIA was held in the beautiful Dolomite town of Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The great protagonist in this case was the weather which in recent months has been putting many regions of Italy in difficulty.

Coming to the news of the race, over 200 registered for this second round despite the forecasts having already given variable weather conditions with the possibility of abundant rainfall, but the riders showed up at the start and already on Friday they tried the new track, finding it challenging and technical , in true DH Old School style.

On Saturday morning the nearly 200 riders descended for the free practice on a perfect track from all points of view, but a few moments before the start of the timed practice for the rookies a "water bomb" hit the locality and after about 30 intense minutes of rain the track became even more demanding, at the limit of practicability and the Race Direction, knowing that the first climbers would have been the youngest, followed by the amateurs, preferred to cancel the afternoon program, postponing everyone to Sunday .
Not an easy choice but one that turned out to be perfect: the track wasn't damaged or punctured and all the participants didn't take unnecessary risks.

On Sunday the timing of the race was remodulated, given the forecasts that still predicted rain in the afternoon. Free practice in the morning, which allowed the race track to improve and at the start of the heat the conditions were almost perfect. As scheduled, the first to descend were the rookies, who demonstrated the hold of the track, concluding with a smile and happy under the bridge at the finish line.
Gradually everyone descended and in the end in the finish area they were satisfied with having finished a race on a technical, beautiful and very physical track, which everyone on the podium described as fun as it was demanding.
The winners in the various categories were: Riccardo Vender among the Beginners; Stefan Laimer in the Men's Masters, while Martina Fumagalli wins in the Women's; among the Agonists Jan Laner wins in the men and Lisa Gava in the women.

Now we are preparing for the next race in Madesimo scheduled for 24 and 25 June on the "delle Streghe" slope and it will be another great weekend of sport.
