The Matterhorn on display and a fascinating show between jumps, parabolic curves and thrilling passages. A pleasant summer day - after many editions of unforgiving weather - welcomed over 300 riders from all over Europe who once again did not want to give up the Italian stage of the Maxi Avalanche circuit, always appreciated for the technicality of the routes and the uniqueness of the landscape.

Overall men's podium Maxiavalache. 5th place for the Italian Tommaso Acerbi

Never like this year have the Breuil-Cervinia courses captured the interest of the big names, capable of giving a show of the highest level to enthusiasts.

In the mass start of the European Cup, the Frenchman of English origins Glenn Macarthur (Santa Cruz), one of the great favorites and already second to Vallnord, brushed every stretch of the slope that led from Cime Bianche to the village and recorded the best time in both heats.

He is the winner of the Breuil-Cervinia stage, ahead of his compatriots Arnaud Garanger (Le Hangar du Velo) – author of a good recovery in the second after the fifth partial time in the middle of the race – and Theo Galy (Sunn French) who managed to stay on the podium despite the fourth fastest time in the final run. Fifth place for the best Italian athlete, Tommaso Acerbi (Bad School), eleventh at the end of the morning descent.

Challengers podium with Mirco Montagni 1st

In the Maxi Avalanche Challengers, open to amateurs, a good performance for the Italian Mirco Montagni (Bike Evo), first ahead of the French Matteo Wijckmans (Amsl Frejus) and his compatriot Maurizio Bisterzo (Scott Sumin). In the same run also the women's sector, with the powerful action of the German Tanja Naber (Santa Cruz), winner with the fifth absolute performance. She preceded the French Maelle Escudero (Lachtouteam) and the Italian Vera Ramon (Racing Team Riverosse).

Too bad for Mirco Montagni who found himself racing in the Challenger due to an unfortunate qualifying (with mechanical problems) which relegated him to the last places and did not allow him to participate in the PRO race. In the Challenger he dominated, putting on a show and lapping with the best times of the PRO race.

E-BIKE RACE

At full speed with traditional mountain bikes or with pedal assistance. Adrenaline-charged descents for everyone at the Maxi Avalanche, which opens up one's horizons and also gives space to the new two-wheeled vehicles. All foreign podium in this race: the Frenchman Lucas Frigout (Specialized) was the best in both heats, he won over the Swiss Maxime Danda (Fulgur Racing) and the Spanish Ben Moore (Orbea Factory).

On the slopes of the Cervino Ski Paradise area there were also many young people who had fun and dived without fear. The American Mia Umpeleva and the Italian Noah Hrustanovic (under 9), the Portuguese Arina Tsyshkova and the Italian Martino Formichi (under 11), the French Alicia Picard and Lisandro Ahuir (under 13) and the other transalpine Milo Pribise (under 15) won.

A spectacular edition, enhanced by the presence of top-level athletes who once again complimented our routes. The world of ebikes is expanding considerably, as are the competitions in the kids categories which guarantee a future for this discipline. Now we have a great project in the pipeline and we are dreaming big because we aim to make the Maxi Avalanche a Mega Avalanche race (even longer, ed), moving the finish line to Valtournenche. Who knows, maybe bringing the start back to Plateau Rosa. For the entire valley this is an important event, which has a significant impact on the area, given that many competitors and companions stayed for a week in Valle d'Aosta – Daniele Herin

And now we are already dreaming of the Mega Avalanche with arrival in Valtournenche for 2024! We look forward to further information.
