Mathieu van der Poel will go to the Olympic qualification in the XCO World Championship in Glasgow. But he will start from the rear given the high number: and all a few days after the road world championship.
The Netherlands have just formalized their selection for the MTB World Championships in Glasgow which will take place from 6 to 12 August. The goal is to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, given the possibility of being one of the top 2 bikers from non-ranked countries.
With men, the challenge is to secure an Olympic spot. It is a difficult task at the World Cup, but the UCI has a place in the Games for the two countries with the highest points in this World Cup, who otherwise could not make it to Paris 2024. We do not know in advance which place will place and we do not we will know in any case until later in this qualification process if we have that place. But this rule is particularly good for Mathieu van der Poel, who has obviously shown in the past that he can compete with the best. The downside is that without UCI points he has to start at the back of the pack, so it will definitely be a challenge Gerben de Knegt
