Mathieu Van der Poel kept the rainbow jersey on his shoulders, given that he had also won the title in 2023. Compatriot Joris Nieuwenhuis was the rider closest to Van der Poel's pace but gradually lost time to his compatriot lap after lap.
Van der Poel dominated from the 1st to the last lap. Belgian cross-country skier Michael Vanthourenhout managed to break the Dutch dominance and used his experience to get into the medal race. The two-time European champion moved back to within 12 seconds of Nieuwenhuis on the final lap, but had to settle for third place.

Winner Van der Poel is now just one world title away from Belgian Erik De Vlaeminck's record seven world victories. After winning 13 out of 14 cross-country races this season, the Alpecin-Deceuninck rider is ready to focus on the Northern Classics and Tour of Flanders.
Three-time cyclocross world title winner Zdenek Stybar ended his career with a thrilling lap of honor in front of home fans in the Czech Republic, finishing 31st. Tom Pidcock (Great Britain) and Wout Van Aert (Belgium) were not on the starting line.
