In the U23 category there were several surprises. The American favorites, Bjorn Riley and Riley Amos, failed to reach the podium, placing 5th and 10th respectively. Amos, despite a dominant season, a victory in the short track event and a 7th place at the Olympics with the elite, failed to shine in the most important event of the season. The Frenchman Luca Martin, already a world silver medalist in the junior category, took advantage of the opportunity by overtaking the Swiss Dario Lillo. The third place went to the Danish Tobias Lillelund.

The best among the Italians was Elian Paccagnella, who finished 18th. The other Italians finished further back: Matteo Siffredi in 31st place and Fabio Bassignana in 34th.
