French cyclist Loris Vergier, the reigning world champion, has broken his scapula in training. The news was confirmed by his team, Commencal/Muc-Off, via social media. It is a major setback for the team, which is also dealing with the loss of Dylan Maples.
The rider seemed comfortable with his new Commencal Supreme V5 so far, but this setback represents a step back in his athletic preparation. The injury does not seem serious but it certainly slows down the approach to the World Cup.

His teammate Dylan Maples also suffered an injury, fracturing the radius of his forearm. The team has had a difficult history with injuries in recent years and Vergier's arrival was intended to strengthen the team after other riders had physical problems. Amaury Pierron, another teammate, broke his hand in the final race of 2024, an injury that took him some time to overcome, although he appears to be fully recovered for the new season.
The focus now is on Vergier and Maples' recovery, with the hope that both can return to training as soon as possible. The 2025 season promises to be intense and Commencal/Muc-Off will try to be ready.
