In a very demanding finale, on a track made difficult and slippery by persistent rain, Pieterse – who had already secured the title last weekend in Snowshoe, USA – still put in the effort to secure a podium finish at the Mont Sainte Anne stage.
But it was Frenchwoman Leona Lecomte (Canyon CLLCTV) whose incredible technical skills helped her overcome a rear puncture and crash to take victory at Mont-Sainte-Anne. With this victory she leapfrogged Mona Mitterwallner (Cannondale Factory Racing) in the overall standings, relegating her to 3rd place. The Austrian, not at ease on the muddy course, finished in 19th place.
Of note is the excellent race of the Swede Jenny Rissveds (Team 31 Ibis Cycles Continental) who managed to stay close to Lecomte and take second place by just 15 seconds.
ITALIANS
Excellent race by Martina Berta who achieved a fantastic 5th place. 11th place for Giada Specia (Willier Pirelli).
