Demonstrating a disarming superiority, the 22-year-old from the Aosta Valley from the Army Sports Centre took home her fifth world title after the successes of Waregen (2019), Graz (2021), Barcelona (2022) and Palangkaraya (2023) and the silver, in a photo finish, by a thousandth, in Leuven, Belgium, in 2020. Let us remember that Gaia is also currently European champion and has won 5 consecutive continental titles.
Today's race saw Tormena brilliantly overcome all the elimination phases. In the final she imposed the pace right from the start. The two German athletes resisted her for only one lap. Then the advantage spread and the new/old world champion closed in 2'02”92 leaving behind Lia Schrievers (at 2”03), Marion Fromberger (at 2”20) and the Danish Line Mygdam (at 9″66).
