DH World Cup: Nina Hoffman wins in La Thuile

Still nothing to do for Valentina Holl. Gracey Hemstreet closes the podium.

The first World Cup event of Downhill in La Thuile left his mark. On the steepest course ever tackled by the UCI circuit (2,3 km for 641 meters of elevation gain and an average gradient of 28%), Canadian Jackson Goldstone (Santa Cruz Syndicate) took his fourth consecutive victory in the World Cup, equaling Aaron Gwin's record from 2012. Just 0,6" behind was world champion Loris Vergier (Commencal/Muc-Off), ahead of Loïc Bruni (Specialized Gravity), third at the finish line after a spectacular run.

In the women's field, a feat by Nina Hoffmann (Santa Cruz Syndicate), who found victory again after two complicated seasons and a recent fall in Leogang. The German was the only athlete to dip under 4 minutes, preceding the leader of the standings Valentina Höll (YT Mob) and the Canadian Gracey Hemstreet (Norco Race Division), best time in qualifying.

Among the juniors, Till Alran (Commencal/Muc-Off) took his second consecutive victory, while Norway's Aletha Ostgaard (Canyon CLLCTV) took her first career win after two second places.

The debut of the La Thuile course, praised by athletes for its combination of natural and constructed sections, gradient and spectacularity, exceeded all expectations. Mud and intermittent rain made the race even more unpredictable, contributing to a great sporting and media spectacle, destined to leave its mark on the World Cup calendar.
