Competitors set off from the ancient village of Finalborgo to tackle a huge 100 km route with almost 4000 meters of elevation gain. Taking on every type of terrain imaginable, the race took place under a scorching Italian sun that pushed the riders to their limits.

The men were first across the line, with Colombian Diego Alfonso Arias Cuervo securing victory with an impressive 1:12 lead ahead of second-placed Martin Stosek (Canyon Northwave MTB Team) and Italian Fabian Rabensteiner ( Wilier-Pirelli Factory Team MX) in third.
I think it was the hardest race of my whole career, it was super tough. The course was about 3700m elevation gain but very technical terrain, so steep and loose, but beautiful. The first part was full of roots and a little wet and then the last part was so dry and steep and hot. It was brutal with the sun so there was some suffering. On the first climb I tried to make a gap and it felt good, so after about 10km I made up the gap and kept it until the end, it was incredible. It means a lot to me that we now have world cup racing in the marathon, it's a big step and also for the women's races, so it really meant a lot to me, I'm very excited. Today was a day that I will remember for the rest of my life – Adelheid Morath
The race was really tough. I had a tough time because there were a lot of climbs and they were really tough. Around 60km I started to pick up the pace, I was tied with the runner up but during that climb I managed to gain space and distance between us and that's when I was able to make a bigger gap and win the race. It is the second most important victory of my career after the 2021 World Cup in Elba – Arias Cuervo
The UCI Marathon World Cup returns on September 16 for the third round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Series Festival Haute-Savoie, which will take place in Chatel, Les Gets and Morzine.
