Mont Sainte Anne DH Final: Brosnan and Cabirou win

The DH World Cup ends with the historic stage of Mont Sainte Anne in Canada.

Troy Brosnan (Canyon CLLCTV Factory) took a dramatic and heartfelt victory in the elite men's final of the UCI Downhill World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec (Canada), while Marine Cabirou (Scott Downhill Factory) saved the best for last in 2024 to win in Canada and take second in the women’s overall standings.

Minnaar says goodbye to DH

Brosnan’s only other UCI World Cup win came in 2021, followed by a huge run of placings, and even his participation in Quebec was in doubt due to the birth of his daughter Madison just six weeks ago at the end of August. Greg Minnaar (Norco Factory Racing) had a relatively clean run in his last UCI World Cup appearance and received a hero’s welcome all along the way.

Minaar said afterwards: “I couldn’t be more grateful for the crowd that came out today, it’s not the best time, but they supported me all the way. I didn’t have a great start, I stopped in the first corner and tried to get back into that rhythm, but it was a bit more slippery than I thought it would be.

“But that crowd was going crazy, as I lost my balance on the rocks, all I could hear was my name being shouted, they were cheering me the whole way. I can’t thank them enough; I feel very much at home here.”

CABIROU CLOSES IN STYLE WITH A DOUBLE SUCCESS

Second overall was still up for grabs in the elite women's race, with regular Tahnée Seagrave (Canyon CLLCTV Factory) racing with an injured hand against challenger Cabirou.

One of the early starters, Seagrave made a big mistake late on and lost about six seconds, meaning she dropped behind Mille Johnset (Canyon CLLCTV Factory). A few minutes later, it was Cabirou’s turn. She pushed hard on the exposed opening section and finished strongly to move into first place by 1,423 seconds.

The junior men's title was decided far from the trail as Asa Vermette (Frameworks Racing) was unable to race this weekend after his crash at Loudenvielle-Peyragudes, meaning Alran knew he would win the title before his run. But there was still the question of victory to be decided and Max Alran dethroned his twin brother Till in the final run of the season by 5,237 seconds.

UCI DOWNHILL WORLD CUP IN MONT-SAINTE-ANNE
