The medieval village of Golferenzo has boasted recognition of the title of the same name by the association "The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" for a couple of years and is a true pearl of beauty in the scenic panorama of the Pavia hills. Among towers that rise towards the sky, castles and valleys with breathtaking views, Golferenzo dominates the extensive and lush vineyards of the Versa Valley, an area of production of wines of the caliber of Riesling and Pinot.
The best gravellists in Italy will compete on the dirt roads that characterize the uncontaminated territory of the Oltrepò Pavese, taking on a route that allows Gravel to express itself to the best of its potential: these are the routes that combine asphalted sections with sections of gravel and dirt roads those most suitable for this type of event, which represent normality in the Oltrepò Pavese, and if the spectacular views that can be enjoyed in this area are added to the package... The cyclists in the race will have to work hard on the demanding track 42 km and 600 meters of altitude difference, but being surrounded by the charm of the vineyards and hills will help you recover your energy more quickly.
And as the mayor of Golferenzo Claudio Scabini well remembers: “Here sport and tourism go hand in hand, in fact we can say that they are practically the same thing. Ours is an area where 'hit and run' tourism no longer exists. Guests who come to Golferenzo do so to feel good, to enjoy the beauty of the Oltrepò Pavese, to savor the gastronomic and wine offerings of the area and, last but not least, to practice outdoor sports". And on the Italian Gravel Championship Scabini adds: “The proposal to be the starting and finishing point for our village was simply impossible to refuse. It was natural for the municipal administration to accept and commit to the realization of this prestigious event". Golferenzo was chosen for its uniqueness which now makes it a real point of reference in Oltrepò Pavese, without forgetting that it is precisely here that the first certified widespread hotel of the Lombardy Region was opened, the Relais “Borgo dei Gatti”: an ambitious project that involves the entire community of Golferenzo and which makes the picturesque medieval village a gem waiting to be discovered.
