Davide Palazzari and Veronika Widmann Italian Champions DH 2023

In addition to the Italian XCO Championships (see reports and results), the Italian DH took place in Prali (TO). Victory for Davide Palazzari, among the Elites, ahead of Introzzi and Revelli (1st in qualifying).

The most important race in Italy of Downhill was staged in Prali (Turin) and was a great success from all points of view, starting from the number of participants, almost 350!
A track in true DH style, long and technical, all made even more insidious by the climatic conditions: it hasn't rained for months and the dry ground meant that the track changed step by step. The riders, in addition to a good physical condition, had to field the ability to know how to interpret the track which in their decisive descent could not be the same as they had seen in the morning in the tests. Situations that have highlighted both the ability of all the riders, but also of their bikes and teams in finding the right setup.

In the top class, nothing was taken for granted, starting with the absence of the 2022 champion Davide Cappello due to injury. There were many pretenders to the title and so were the pre-race uncertainties. Best time on Saturday for Loris Revelli, but it was immediately realized that no one wanted to take risks before Sunday's race and that everyone had practiced giving their best, but without risking compromising the entire weekend, in fact the absolute best time of the day was set by the very good Loris Mascherini (Students category), with 4.10'709.

On Sunday in front of the public of major events, who watched both from the finish area and along the entire track, everything was perfect and wonderful and the absolute best time was set by Davide Palazzari (Team Rogue Racing), with 4,07'476 who preceded Stefano Introzzi and Loris Revelli to the finish line.

Nothing to be taken for granted even in the women's Top Class category and the winner in front of everyone, reconfirming the result of '22, was Veronika Widmann (Team Nukeproof Racing) who preceded Eleonora Farina on the top step of the podium, returning after months of break following an injury, and Gloria Scarsi.

YOUTH COMPETITIONS

Raw little cuttlefish: a fantastic Loris Mascherini, definitely head and shoulders above all and who recorded top rider times, won in front of Ettore M. Canovaro and Gregorio Arnoul; in the female Sandy Quincy wins ahead of Alice Sasso.

Debutant: Thomas Bruno, followed by Filippo Gilardino and Francesco Masiero; while in the female Rebecca Bruno precedes Matilde Bianchetti and Selene Pagani.

Junior: Christian Hauser wins ahead of Andrea Bonanomi and Mattia Bianco; among the girls Clarissa Garzolio precedes Sofia Priori Viale and Asia Sirolla.

The classification of the Masters saw in Elite Sport Tommaso Pastorino win the tricolor jersey (with the best time of the category with 4.30'930), followed by Ferrari and Caramellino; Podium Master 1, Sanguigni in first place Roman second and Balduchelli third; Master 2, Fusani wins ahead of Vincenzi and Robello; Master 3, Dal Pozzo ahead of Fabbri and Sbalzer; Master 4, Bruno on the top step of the podium with Alleva and Berera; in Master 5, Colombo wins ahead of Gaida and Zocca; Master 6, Piergiovanni wins ahead of Battistella and Sacco; Master 7, Bolzanella first, Righi second and Tosadori third.

On the podiums and not only a lot of partying and as always see you next year for this wonderful race Downhill national… Compliments from everyone to the organization and to all those who ensure that this show can always go on, more and more professionally managed. A big round of applause also to all the "boys" of the Prali Bike Park for the welcome and the competence demonstrated from all points of view.

Next national appointment in Bormio with the Italian Cup final at the end of August.
