Vali made a clean sweep by winning qualifiers, semi-finals and finals at home in Leogang. Heavy overnight rain created some difficult conditions on the track, especially in the critical forest section. Höll had green splits all the way down, extending his lead and winning by 7.102 seconds.
American Anna Newkirk (BEYOND RACING) took second place, her first World Cup podium. The French Myriam Nicole (COMMENCAL/MUC-OFF BY RIDING ADDICTION) finally returned to her first race, immediately climbing onto the podium. Swiss Lisa Baumann (COMMENCAL LES ORRES) also achieved her first World Cup podium (4th place). The winner in Poland, the French Marine Cabirou (SCOTT DOWNHILL FACTORY), finished 5th.
Vali Höll had this to say about his run: “It was crazy. I didn't feel like I did in Fort William, then I had an accident in Poland and missed the podium. I knew it would be tough at home in Leogang. Damn, I'm happy. Thanks to all my coaches, my team, my parents, everyone. The woods were the crucial section. You can win or lose the race here. I watched the Junior race, I saw Erice's race and I didn't want to be beaten by her. I don't think anyone expected Leogang to be so technical. Riders complained that Leogang was too easy but boy, this track is not easy at all. It's so hard and difficult to hold the line. Happy to bring it home and get back to last year. I don't know how long I can keep doing this, there's a lot of pressure. But I love it.”
