Pauline Ferrand Prevot in History: she is Olympic champion!

Domination by the multiple champion, home favourite Pauline Ferrand Prevot, who takes one lap to put an increasingly wider gap between herself and her opponents. The French champion with the Olympic title in XCO MTB completes an extraordinary collection of successes with the only gold that was still missing. Good performance by the two Italians in the race. Chiara Teocchi, in the top ten until the last lap, closes in 11th place at 5'50”. Martina Berta is 14th at 6'48”.

The pace set by the Olympic champion at the start forced many of her rivals to surrender, in particular Pieterse and her compatriot Lecomte, who suffered a puncture and a fall respectively. Behind the Frenchwoman, at the final finish line, pass the American Betten, at 2'57”, and the Swedish Rissveds, at 3'02”.

Chiara Teocchi: “It's a shame I wasn't able to get into the top ten, but in the end I'm happy. The race was immediately fast due to the pace set by the leaders and I believe I performed as well as I could."

Even Martina Berta doesn't complain about the placement: “I tried to keep up with the pace of the leaders, but there wasn't a moment's breathing space and every second lost in the end became an unbridgeable gap. However, I am happy to be here, at the Olympics. Fantastic experience.”

Coach Mirko Celestino analyzes the test: “The girls gave the performance that was expected of them. We knew it was difficult to fight for the very top positions. It's a shame for Chiara Teocchi that, with a little more experience, she could have easily entered the top ten, certainly an excellent result."

RECORD PAULINE FERRAND PREVOT

It will be very difficult for another athlete to match the size of Prevot's palmares: she has practically a world title won in almost all disciplines of off-road (all non-gravity ones).
