From 7 to 13 February, Lidl is offering a Zundapp e-bike at the price of €899. An offer that will surely make the more technical ones turn up their noses. But let's dive into the past, who is Zündapp? Zündapp is a motorcycle brand that is making a comeback after closing in 1984 and producing models that experts will remember. Not being an expert of those years, I limit myself to saying that the style was there, all by looking only at the photos of the time without evaluating the mechanical and performance aspects.

FEATURES Z801
Returning to us, the Z801 model is a front e-bike offered at €2.099 in the price list, therefore not exactly an entry point, but it can be found for sale at €899 by the German group Lidl, which occasionally offers products for sale and accessories that go far beyond its role as a supermarket.
Hydroformed aluminum frame with a weight of about 22,7kg (for one front). Shimano Tourney 7-speed gearbox with Prowhell / Neco mixed components and Tektro MD-280 brakes: reliable but mechanical (not hydraulic). Wheel format 27,5 ".

250w motor (canonical) a 480 Wh lithium-ion battery (classic): at this price you follow the standards of 500wh but certainly not to compare with the 500 wh of a bike with a Bosch motor (much more performing and optimized).
IMPRESSIONS
An e-bike that is certainly not worth the € 2000 original price list but at € 899 it may be worth it if used on flat routes with little elevation gain: the motor on the hub, compared to a more professional one on the crankset axis, reduces the power and also autonomy, but on the plain it is more than enough to give us the support we need.
Mechanical disc brakes are definitely not up to par for medium intensive off-road use so dream about it downhill after watching Danny Hart's Champery video (link).
In a nutshell, a good bike for a flat journey home to work: both for the technical characteristics of the vehicle, and for the aesthetics that could discourage any thefts.
We leave you with a video of the German house to be able to see it in all its splendor.
