XCO MTB Olympics 2024: See the TRACK! Van der Poel is also at the start

The Test Event of the Olympics will take place tomorrow: Mathieu Van der Poel will also be at the start.

The on-board is by Anneke Beerten, a former enduro and 4x champion, who now follows Team USA Cycling in the technique. Nice to know that Beerten is of Dutch nationality: therefore she will not follow Van der Poel but the US national team.

This race has very particular conditions and although the UCI includes it in its calendar, no prizes or points will be awarded , there will be no distinction between age categories, only women's and men's races in the absolute category will be held , and participants can be on the starting line by invitation.

The route, located at 230 meters of altitude , has a distance of 4,4 km per lap (2,2 km for the starting lap), accumulates a height difference of 110 m per lap and presents different technical areas such as rock gardens, jumps, etc.

PROGRAM

2 races scheduled for 24 September 2023

  • Women's individual race, starting at 1pm
  • Men's individual race, from 3pm

How to follow the race

The race will not be televised. The reports will be available on our website after the race.

In the men's race we will see the return of important names such as Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands), Sam Gaze (New Zealand) or the current world champion and Olympic title holder Tom Pidcock (United Kingdom). Additionally, there will be the current favorites of each race, such as Nino Schurter and Mathias Fluckiguer (Switzerland), David Valero (Spain), Vlad Dascalu (Romania), Jordan Sarrou and Victor Koretzky (France) or Luca Schwarzbauer (Germany).

In the women's category, the French Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Loana Lecomte start as the biggest favorites in terms of level and local condition, but there will be important names such as Puck Pieterse (Holland), Alessandra Keller (Switzerland), Mona Mitterwallner (Austria), Martina Berta ( Italy) or Evie Richards (UK). Not to forget the current Olympic champion Jolanda Neff (Switzerland) who, although she is not having the best season of hers, she already knows what it means to win an Olympic gold medal.

ppgad@pucrs.br I am passionate about everything that has 2 wheels: in my youth I practiced competitive cycling on the road and on the track with good results. At the age of 18 I moved to cross country competing at national/international level as U23. Once I passed Elite, I made the choice to take things easier from the training point of view, and that's how my love for gravity disciplines was born, training as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made my passion my profession by managing 3 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way, everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube 'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
