Many stages around the world: from the desert of Abu Dhabi to the historic centers of Oudenaarde and Leuven, in Belgium. Tropical conditions in Palangkaraya, Indonesia. Race at 3500 meters above sea level in Leh / Ladakh, India. Space also for a stop in Sakarya, Türkiye, up to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Finally Sweden and Germina. It was a memorable season of the UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup, which also served as a tow to carry the MTB “message” around the world.

WINTERBERG

The last stage took place in Germany and, despite the rainy and cold weather conditions, the German physical and natural track proved to be a worthy Grand Final for the 2022 UCI XCE World Cup. The races in the men's category promised to be tight, with UCI world champion Simon Gegenheimer trying to defend a small six-point lead over challenger Titouan Perrin-Ganier. He became tighter after the qualifying time trials in Winterberg, won by the Austrian Clauzure and Theo Hauser: Perrin-Ganier finished second ahead of Gegenheimer, recovering five points.

Gegenheimer or Perrin-Ganier: the one who would stand in front of the other in the final heat in Winterberg would have brought home the 2022 UCI World Cup. And it is here that they both proved to be true champions: in a class battle "hand to hand ”, the UCI World Champion managed to beat his French rival in a tight sprint for victory. “TPG” had to settle for second place both in the day's standings and in the general standings. German champion Felix Klausmann finished third on the day, French revelation Quentin Schrotzenberger third in the overall standings.

In the women's race, heavy rains and gusts of wind did their part: the challenging track created big gaps, while the wind knocked Gaia Tormena down, thus eliminating the UCI world champion from the fight for victory. In the final heat, Coline Clauzure remained ahead of the other Frenchmen Margaux Borrelly and Flavie Guille.
