After Julie Bresset, the farewell to competitions of Matthias Stirnemann also arrives, an excellent athlete able to win an Absa Cape Epic in the company of Nino Schurter (2017)
Definitely the most original farewell given that it was presented at the start of the penultimate stage of the 2021 World Cup in Lenzerheide with a vintage 26″ and front triple.
His best year was certainly 2016, the year in which he reached the 5th place in the Uci Ranking and which then led him for 2 years to wear the colors of Team Scott and to win the Cape Epic 2017 in teammates. Nino Schurter.
In 2016 he raced for the Möbel Märki MTB Pro Team, equipped with Scott bikes. He was in his elite first year and took 6th place at the Nove Mesto World Championships, 4th place in the Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup and finished 6th overall that year.
Too bad that he subsequently failed to repeat himself and, despite some good placings, he had to slowly lower his goals. After the Cape Epic 2017 it was never the same with results beyond 30th place in the World Cup.
He then left Scott to return to his historic team, the Möbel Märki MTB Pro Team. Since then, the results have not been what he was aiming for when he reached the elite category. Below we have published the lap times of Matthias, but in addition to the 26 ″ perhaps the lack of motivation due to the last race of his career has influenced, as well as a state of not optimal form.
This bitter-tasting story shows us how difficult it is to stay at the top in professional sport. We congratulate Matthias for his excellent results in the world of MTB and wish him a great future full of successes.
