Next year there will be no group marathon world champion jersey: Henrique Avancini decides to quit at the top of his career with an rainbow jersey on his shoulders. After picking up victories in the XCO World Cup, Short Track and 2 XCM World Titles, it's time to stop.
A surprise decision since this year he had started his own sports project, giving life to an entirely Brazilian team. Everyone expected Avancini to withdraw but not so soon. Here is the video below for all to see.
I feel happy to pursue new goals, to do new things, in a different way. Especially for being able to not put my ego first. I know that sometimes sport is cruel to our minds. I have seen many great runners stop competing because they no longer liked what they were doing, because they had lost their passion and for me it is still the thing I like most in life. Training, competing… it's the lifestyle I like. But due to life's consequences, the time has come to move on. I feel strong about moving on right now – Henrique Avancini
