Victory and jersey for Wilier Pirelli at the 1st of Swiss Epic

The 2022 edition of the Swiss Epic, a 5-day stage race through the canton of Graubünden, one of the most spectacular in the Swiss Alpine region, has started today.

This year the Wilier Triestina Factory Team presents itself with only one pair, but highly combative, made up of the European Marathon champion Fabian Rabensteiner and the Austrian Marathon champion Daniel Geismayr.

After the bad fall of Samuele Porro and the consequent retirement in 2021, this year Fabian Rabensteiner is serious about recovering the vanished victory through no fault of the two athletes, but this time Geismayr will be his shoulder.

The opening leg of the Swiss Epic 2022 started from Arosa and passed twice on the wonderful Hörnli Trail, 6,8 kilometers starting from Hörnli-Express at 2.482 meters above sea level to reach 600 meters further down. Stage 1 also included two close encounters with the four brown bears of the Arosa Bear Sanctuary and the moonscape of Sandböden.

Fabian and Daniel, however, did not let themselves be too distracted by the panorama, because immediately they pushed on the accelerator to go and take the stage and jersey and make the opponents understand immediately that they were the athletes to beat in this 2022.

Up to the middle of the race they controlled the leading group, but on the climb to Hörnli-Express they picked up the pace remaining alone in the lead and closing the stage with arms raised in 2 hours 57 ′ 10 ″, with a 3'40 "advantage over the second classified couple.

Now they command the results and wear the yellow leader's jersey. Tomorrow Stage 2 from Arosa to Laax, 79 km with 2600 meters of elevation gain.

At the age of 18 I passed into the cross country competing at national/international level as an Under23. Past Elite, I made the choice to take things more lightly from a training point of view, and my love for gravity disciplines was born, training me as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made passion my profession by managing 2 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Bike Center Elba and Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
