Excursions on terraced slopes, scenic routes through ancient farming villages, nature tours through woods and mountain pastures. On 18-19 September in Morbegno the second edition of the Valtellina Ebike Festival was staged, the largest Italian event and sporting focus dedicated to electric bicycles. An event that conveys the beauty of the Lower Valtellina and its heritage of routes by focusing on the values of slow tourism starting from environmental sustainability and placing the focus on the delicious local food and wine.

On Saturday 18 September, more than 200 enthusiasts took part in the great Festival Ride by Trek excursion, a super-panoramic all-mountain tour that included passages through the vineyards, among some historical wonders and among the ancient farming villages rich in traditions. The tour could be covered in easy mode, completely on concrete and dirt roads, or in challenge mode, including trails inside the woods. A path to be done each with their own pace, but with a unique spirit of friendship, enjoying the beauty of the places and stopping for small tastings of typical products in the refreshment points set up along the routes.

The epicenter of the event was the eBike Village set up in the center of Morbegno, elected Alpine city in 2019 and, thanks to its restaurants, shops, wineries and artisan shops, the Valtellinese capital of good living. Here, right next to the beautiful medieval historic center, the large exhibition area has been set up with the new e-bike models and other products dedicated to cycle tourism. Among the brands present Met Helmets, a local company and international leader in the production of cycling helmets, which presented the previews 2022 and involved the participants with prize draws. Among the main partners of the event also Trek Bicycle, which had its e-mtb models tested on a dedicated circuit and Schwalbe Tires, sponsor of the guided tours in the program. To attract the curiosity of those present, the presentation of the new Yeti 160 E presented in preview at the stand of Mondo Ebike, a large Morbegnese store, a point of reference for all fans of electric bicycles. Visitors also had the opportunity to test the electric and hybrid cars brought by Bonaldi Group and Autotorino and to test the speed of data exchange on optical fiber by Mynet by Noratech, partner of the event for connectivity and innovation.

On Sunday 19 September, the pouring rain (especially in the afternoon) did not stop more than 100 participants from responding to this! to guided tours: Taste of Valtellina, food and wine excursion with tasting of the delicious products of the Latteria Sociale Valtellina and other local producers; Trail Experience, an enduro-style initiative on the most beautiful trails of the Orobie Alps; Val Gerola and Bitto, guided tour to discover the secrets of Bitto cheese production. Only the Val Masino and Secular Forest tour, which would have taken the participants inside one of the most enchanted naturalistic places in Italy, was canceled due to weather warnings.

A big round of applause went to the guys from 360 Valtellina Bike who, in addition to having traced the routes with the support of the komoot team (an application that allows you to design and navigate your own adventures), have provided mountain-bike guides and dozens of volunteers who oversaw the activities ensuring the safety of all participants. Also present at the event was Tirex Sport, an association that deals with stimulating people with motor disabilities to practice sports including mountain biking and that at the Valtellina Ebike Festival announced a new project related to mountain biking and disabilities dedicated to large Italian resorts and which will see the light in 2022.

Some important statistical data are already leaking from the organization: as for the first edition, a large participation in the initiatives is confirmed by the female public (30%) and by enthusiasts from outside the province (85%), data that identify the Valtellina Ebike Festival as an inclusive event capable of attracting tourism within the Valtellina borders.

The Valtellina Ebike Festival naturally gives an appointment to 2022, but invites all cycling enthusiasts to visit Morbegno and its valleys at any time of the year.
