Today the Team Relay will be on stage, a specialty where Italy always starts among the nations to beat. After the victory at the European championship (Serbia last August 12), the formation for the world championship will be the same, with the only difference of the junior male relay runner where Betteo replaces Agostinacchio:
- Luca Braidot (Elite M)
- Martina Berta (Elite W)
- Marco Betteo (Juniores M)
- Sara Cortinovis (Juniores W)
- Juri Zanotti (Under23 M)
- Marika Tovo (Under23 W)
The team to beat will be France, reigning champion, with Italy and Switzerland ready to ruin the party. But Team Relay is a spectacular and very fast discipline: one lap each for the 6 athletes of the team where a minimum error can ruin the final result. Italy has won the gold medal in Team Relay on three occasions: in 2009, in 2012 and in 2013.
The Team Relay is a team relay, in which 6 athletes from each national team participate, 3 men and 3 women, representing the competitive categories recognized by the UCI (Juniores, U23 and Elite). Until 2016, the Relay Team featured four athletes per team while, from 2017 to 2019, it switched to a 5-athlete formula. 2020 marked the debut edition of the current six-athlete Team Relay.
The Relay Team joined the MTB World Championship program in 1999 where, in that edition, Margarita Fullana and José Antonio Hermida's Spain won.
