The enormous vastness and great variety of the trail network have made it possible, again this year, to present a race route that lives up to expectations, but above all capable of reflecting the essence and spirit of the sporting format, made up of long rides over than of technical and timed descents. Enduro is the mountain bike discipline that best suits and enhances the territory of the Finale Outdoor Region characterized by the presence of plateaus, valleys and hundreds of paths that make this location a true mecca, as well as the spiritual home of enduro .
Andrea Principato, president of Finale Outdoor Region Sport & Events, commented: “After a 2023 season marked by strong changes due to the transition of enduro to a UCI discipline, for the athletes starting the World Cup season in Finale Ligure was like returning home, to a place that has welcomed them since 2013, presenting always something new and new interpretations. Athletes and teams are at home in the Region all year round: many of them return in the winter to train or with their families, to enjoy our unique mix of outdoor activities, sea, ice cream and "Italian Vibes". For this reason, the message we wanted to convey with this year's claim is "Welcome Back Home", and we hope that all the people who were in the Region for this weekend felt at home. I would also like to thank all the organizational staff who, again this year, with commitment and passion, managed to organize an event of the highest level, as has also been underlined several times by Warner Bros Discovery itself".
The numbers of this year's event are decidedly important: 27 nations competing, more than 250 staff people involved between the local organisation, Warner Bros Discovery staff (promoter of the event), marshals and volunteers, one day of rehearsals and 2 race days, 30 Official UCI teams present in the paddock area and over 20 brands in the expo area.
Saturday's World Cup enduro race featured 5 special stages, 56 km and 2.750 m of altitude difference and saw the American Richie Rude climb to the top step of the podium, followed by the New Zealander Charlie Murray and the Belgian Martin Maes. The Italian Mirco Vendemmia comes close to the podium and starts the season with a fantastic 4th place achieved in Italy. Among the women, third place on the podium for the British Ella Conolly, second for the reigning champion Isabeau Courdurier and first place for Hattie Harnden. The fastest among the Italians was Nadine Ellecosta who finished in an excellent eighth position, while Laura Rossin, athlete of the Outdoor Region Final, finished fourteenth.
The World Cup E-Enduro electric race which took place today saw the athletes compete on 9 special stages on an 84 km route with 3.750 meters of altitude difference. The Australian Ryan Gilchrist prevailed among the men, while among the women the Chilean athlete Florencia Espineira Herreros took home the victory.
The lively event village, thanks to the wonderful climate and the blue of a crystalline sea, welcomed companies and the public for three days of celebration with music, product tests, autograph sessions with athletes, and a new entertainment format on stage with Friday talk shows. Guests at Enrico Guala's microphone were the City of Sanremo, the Trash Free Trails association, the Swiss destination Aletsch Arena - which in two months will host the 4th round of the Enduro World Cup, and the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Station of Finale Ligure , committed these days and all year round to ensuring the safety of those who practice outdoor activities. As a sign of thanks for their great commitment to our resort and its guests, the FOR YOU CARD Contest was dedicated to them, which involves the donation of 50% of the weekend's card proceeds to the association.
This year's edition saw the participation of many people, associations and local companies without whom it would not have been possible to create this weekend of top-level sport.
The organizing committee of the Finale Outdoor Region thanks all the people and entities involved and, in particular, the marshalls, the volunteers, the AIB teams, the Alpine and Speleological Rescue, the children of the New School Center of Finale Ligure Ipsar A. Migliorini, and all the medical staff committed to ensuring safety on the route.
