Trek's 2023 environmental sustainability report

Trek unveils its 2023 environmental sustainability report, with a commitment to increasingly reduce the impact of emissions on the planet.

In 2021 Trek Bicycle completed its first corporate emissions audit, publishing in a report the outcome of what was achieved and the direction it would take to help our planet. In 2023, Trek is taking a deeper dive into all carbon issues, with an additional focus on company-wide reduction goals and new business practices.

A bicycle company produces products that offer solutions to many of the world's most complex problems such as congestion on our roads, public health and climate change. However, for too long the cycling industry has been given something of an environmental pass. Trek has decided to face its impact on our planet head-on.

In Trek's 2023 sustainability report, various issues are specifically addressed that a company like this must address to try to reduce its environmental impact as much as possible.

Renewable energy

Trek's U.S. headquarters and manufacturing facilities are powered entirely by energy purchased through validated RECs (renewable energy credits). By 2030, RECs will be purchased for all Trek-owned facilities globally.

Production of waste from plastic packaging

Trek has redesigned bike and aftermarket product packaging to dramatically reduce the use of single-use plastic. Since 2020, the new designs have helped avoid the use of more than 241 tons of plastic packaging waste per year.

Recycled plastic

Trek is continuing to find many new opportunities to use recycled plastic to make bikes and equipment. Today, 38 products, including bottle cages, grips, fabrics and helmets, contain a percentage of recycled plastic.

More sustainable fabrics

Trek's road and mountain bike clothing contains fabrics made from recycled bottles or textile waste. These contributed to the reuse of over 2,2 tonnes of material.

Building change

Trek believes that bicycles can make a difference, so we have collaborations with many organizations that turn these products into a force for good for our planet and people. Through support of PeopleForBikes, World Bicycle Relief, NICA and other organizations, he tries to fuel meaningful change around the world.

Today, in Trek, the topic of environmental impact is an integral part of every discussion. Below you can find the full sustainability report: an in-depth look at emissions, corporate goals and the ways Trek has adopted to reduce the impact of its activities for a better planet.
