Not many news arrive from the race and the press releases are made with google translate: on the other hand, not everyone has the organizational excellence that we have in Italy 🙂 Space for the final press release of the race with various photographs of the event.

In 2022, participants have to go through seven daily stages. Runners will cross the breathtaking alpine landscapes.

Even the best race ends one day. Today the last stage of the MAXXIS BIKE Transalp 2022 took the participants from Lavarone to Riva del Garda, where the atmosphere after the race was gigantic. Among the fastest runners, there was a new roll of the dice today. In the Masters team category there was an exchange of leaders and in the men's teams the winning streak of the 7C-ECONOMY-WILIER team was interrupted.

Joy, relief, pride, but also melancholy were the companions of today's participants, who waited for the last time for the starting signal at the MAXXIS BIKE Transalp 2022 in the sunny morning. The final stage took place for over 79 kilometers and with 2.120 meters of elevation gain from Lavarona to Riva del Garda and was therefore once again a challenging BIKE Transalp stage. At Lake Garda, the finalists were visibly happy.

The last stage not only led to the desired destination, but also through a piece of history. 100 years ago on the plateau of Folgaria, Luserna and Lavarone the First World War raged. Today's route also passed through these fortresses. From Carbonare to Serrada 1.000 meters in altitude were covered on military roads. The reward was the fantastic panoramic view from the mountain peaks. The military history tour concluded with a technically demanding route up to Serrada. A steep descent followed on paths, forest paths, cart tracks and roads up to the Adige valley. In this descent, 1.000 meters deep were carried out in no time at all. Finally, a few kilometers followed on the cycle path to Rovereto. Here began the climb to the Monte Faé pass, which required maximum effort at the end with a 17% ramp. In Nomesino, the route crossed the Val di Gresta and led to Maso Naranch, where the Naranch Trail begins: a final highlight of this MAXXIS BIKE Transalp. Continuing towards the Marmitte dei Giganti, finally, a dirt path continues up to Arco. Now the route has continued flat on the road to Riva del Garda, where the arrival arc awaited all the finalists.

For the fastest riders today was a real challenge. On the last day the cards were shuffled, especially since the last day the flaw witch shuffled in the starting field.

After winning six days in a row, the 7C-ECONOMY-WILIER team looked invincible. On the last day, however, the two drivers' winning streak was interrupted, also due to their defect. With a gap of more than 15 minutes from today's winners Teus Ruijter and Tim Smeenge of Team KMC, Carlos Arroyo Herrera and Luis Snachez Mejia reached the finish line today in an unusual fourth place.

The runners-up Michael Wohlgemuth and Philip Handl of Team Texpa Simplon / MC Racing by Casa also crossed the finish line today more than 19 minutes behind the winners and therefore had to give up the second place in the overall standings, which they had taken over the previous days with a quick race to recover, to Team KMC on the last day. “I had a flat tire, which we were able to repair quickly,” Handl reported. “Then I destroyed my circle, which wasted a lot of time. I then received a spare tire from the helpers on the main Masters team. Without this help we certainly would not have reached the finish line yet ”, Handl continues thanking. The frustration, however, is not in the least noticeable in the two young drivers. Wohlgemuth is radiant: “It was a good race. We are very happy with third place. And the KMC team drove incredibly well today.

MASTER

In the Masters teams, after all, there was a change of leader jersey after the last phase. After yesterday's stage victory, Michael Anthes and Karl Platt's Team BULLS started the race just 1:18 minutes from the overall leader. They had already stressed it yesterday: they would give everything today to perhaps still be able to take home the overall victory. They didn't promise too much. Today they were able to gain more than five minutes on the 7C-WILIER team and thus were able to take home the blue leader's jersey after the seventh stage.

Both teams were not accompanied by the best conditions. Team 7C-Willier had to struggle with defects and a stage not adapted to the two drivers. Two punctures also interfered with the BULLS drivers. “Our nerves were nervous today. We thought we hadn't succeeded ”, has already brought Platt back to the finish. "I took out my cell phone after the timekeeping and I immediately checked if we had the jersey." The joy was naturally great when the two BULLS riders had the black and white confirmation.
