274 participants, including 4 women and 3 foreigners. These are the numbers of the second round of the Toscano Enduro Series which took place in the past few hours during the Liberation weekend on the hills of the Bandite di Scarlino Regional Forestry Complex, along the paths that from the hilly hinterland reach the beaches of the stretch of coast between Cala Violina and PuntAla Camping Resort.
First classified is Francesco Pallini of Follonica of Team Tronkamakkia, second the Florentine Martino Poccianti of Team Cicli Poccianti, on the third step of the podium the Pisan Claudio Barreca of Team Speed Point; first among women was Irene Savelli of Team Maggi Off Road from Pistoia.
The logistic base of the race is PuntAla Camping Resort, considered by bike lovers a privileged place in the panorama of open air tourism. After the excellent start of the 2016 Toscano Enduro Series, which gathered over 300 participants at its debut in Calci, the just-concluded appointment in Punta Ala managed to attract what is considered a real sporting movement devoted to mountain biking. Thirty off-road kilometers traveled by the athletes, alternating between steep climbs along the fire stops and steep technical timed descents through the green tunnels in single-trail, for a total of about a thousand meters in altitude; these are the characteristics of the route.
Since 2009 Punta Ala has started to focus on the world of bikes to arrive in a few years to establish itself as the MTB academy. Witness the hundreds of entries collected on the occasion of competitive events of national level, such as the four editions of SuperEnduro - Italian Enduro Series from 2011 to 2014, which were followed by the races of the European Enduro Series in 2014 and 2015. In 2013 PuntAla had its debut on a world level, opening the Enduro World Series and bringing Maremma to the honors of the sports news on all continents.
The next stage of the Toscano Enduro Series returns to the end of the season on Sunday 16 October with the appointment in Castiglione della Pescaia. The hilly area around the ancient medieval village will be the area that will host the three final tests of the regional Enduro MTB circuit.
It should be noted that in these days the Puntala Camping Resort will be the logistical base for the filming of "La Sfida 2", the broadcast of the Bike Channel television schedule (SKY platform) which will see 4 teams of mountain-bike cyclists compete against each other, each one trained by three men and a woman, during five days of sporting and non-sporting tests. The production will be based at PuntAla Camping Resort and every day will move to film the teams struggling on routes set in the most evocative and challenging corners of the Maremma. The final race will be held along the paths around the Cala Violina beach.
The wide sports calendar of Puntala Camping Resort continues on the weekend of 14 and 15 May when the structure will once again welcome athletes from all over Italy for the Olympic X-TRI and sprint races with the test on two lengths of cross triathlon (swimming, mountain- bike and running), followed on Sunday by the Sprint Triathlon, which will see athletes compete on the disciplines of swimming, road bike and running.
