Let's go inside the Duchenne Heroes thanks to 2 supporters who have decided to take part in it by keeping a sort of diary that will be published, thanks to an extensive report, in the 365mountainbike issue of August. We are almost halfway through the race as the event will end on Sunday 29 June. The Duchenne Heroes is a 7-day tour for mountain bikers that will take place from 16 to 22 June 2013 in the Dolomites. Those who participate in this event will not only give vent to their passion for mountain biking, but will give concrete support to the families of Parent Project who struggle every day against the Duchenne muscular dystrophy that afflicts their children. The proceeds from the event will in fact be donated to Parent Project to finance scientific research projects for the discovery of a Duchenne cure.
DUCHENNE HEROS - 22 JUNE 2014 - DAY ONE
Departure from Pozza di Fassa. The first part of the tour takes place on a flat bike path with some ups and downs.
We went through fairytale scenarios worthy of every great dreamer.
The climb was constant with some steeper sections up to the Duron pass but with the right pace and with the right bike we tackled it without problems.
Once we reached the pass, the view of the Alpe di Siusi left us breathless. The day, however, was beautiful and the emotion at this sight was great.
In Santa Cristina the coveted check point that allowed us to eat and exchange some opinions with the other participants.
From here descent to Selva di Val Gardena, and a good coffee.
We left and uphill again to Passo Gardena, but we were in the company of thousands of cyclists because today it was SellaRonda Day, or roads closed to cars all day. We looked like a myriad of colored confetti.
Then back down to the arrival in Corvara with the same single track as the Sellaronda Hero.
The day was splendid, the sun never left us.
Tired but heroes for a day.
Now let's talk about the technical aspect of our vehicles:
the bikes we are using are the Focus Thorn 45 and the Focus Jarifa 25. The difference lies solely in the power of the engine which leads to a maximum engine speed of 45 km, the first and the second to a maximum limit of 25 km.
Today the bikes proved up to the situation for both the full 45 and the front 25 despite the track being quite challenging in some points due to the bumpy surface and the challenging downhill and uphill slopes.
Our tester found the Thorn 45 to be very reliable for the set-up and chassis by mounting Schalbe road tires, while the Jarifa did not give cause for concern, even if the position on the bike was not the most optimal.
Excellent sensations on the performance of the two bikes, undoubtedly the electric motor allows you to face any obstacle and any difficulty, for us bikers with some precautions on the details of the position on the bike (see a cover more suitable for off-road) you could tackle the route with a little 'more security and decision making.
The engine performance with all pedaling and power sensors proved to be very reliable and the battery life just as good.
So Km. Routes more than 50 with a difference in height of about 2600 meters and a splendid day full of many emotions shared between us and with all the participants in the day by bike.
See you soon. Bye.
