World marathon champion Mona Mitterwallner, born in 2002, proves to be ready for the international confrontation with the Elite. We remind you that you will participate in the World Cup as Elite and not as U23 (the UCI allows, to those who request it, to be able to run with the higher category despite the young age).

He started with the underdogs Mona Mitterwallner (Cannondale Factory Racing), and the young and phenomenal Austrian did not betray the expectations in the Women's Open race of Marlene South Tyrol Sunshine Race, 2nd stage of Internazionali d'Italia Series.
The Tyrolean overcame a not very brilliant start and then shed light on the terrain most congenial to her, the long climb of the Nightingale. In the first session it was instead highlighted Eve Lechner (Trinx Factory Racing), winner of the race in Nalles on four occasions, but could do nothing against the return of the young rival.
At the end of the second lap, Mitterwallner passed with 22 seconds on Giada Specia (Wilier-Pirelli), still brilliant after the success of San Zeno, and 28 over Lechner and the German Leonie Daubermann (KTM Factory Racing Team), an advantage increased to 1.12 over the trio - now compacted - in the following lap.
From that point, the Austrian athlete continued in management, ending his fatigue in 1.33.37. Second place for Leonie Daubermann (+1.13.), Third a smiling Eva Lechner (+1.40). Giada Specia confirmed his leadership in the general classification of the Internazionali d'Italia Series in the Open and Under 23 Women categories, ahead of Giorgia Marchet (Trinx Factory Racing), fifth today.
"Nalles is a race that I particularly love, I'm happy to be able to come here and test myself before my debut in the Elite World Cup in Brazil," commented Mona Mitterwallner. "Today the track was difficult and technical, but also thanks to the excellent feeling I found with the new bike, I was able to feel at ease."
"We found a really tough path, due to yesterday's rain," said Eva Lechner, “Mona was too strong for everyone, but I'm really happy with my performance, to be back on the podium in my home race, in front of my friends and fans. Now I'm ready to leave for Brazil with more confidence. "
