CIMONE MOUNTAIN BIKE: MONTECRETO SUMMER IS AT THE RHYTHM OF FUNKY DAY
Funky Day returns to Montecreto, the historic mountain bike meeting: two days dedicated to fat wheels in the most goliardic of spirits, on the notes of funky music, for 48 hours of continuous partying. In summer 2016 the watchword is fun, the right ingredient for a recipe based on new routes dedicated to all-mountain and freeride rides, freestyle bmx shows, food and wine competition and the legendary night party. News coming soon: special focus on children and girls!
Mountain bike enthusiasts can already bookmark the hottest weekend in the Modena Apennines on their agenda: 18 and 19 June, two days dedicated to mountain biking in all its forms. From the classic ride in the spectacular woods of Monte Cimone, the green lung of Emilia Romagna, to the new and exciting gravity trails traced by Pippo Marani, creator of the Italian Downhill UCI World Cup, passing through the busy schedule of events dedicated to those who love cycling, the mountains and local food and wine.
Funky Day has been linked to Montecreto since the dawn of the 80s, because it is in the heart of the Modenese mountains that the funky spirit of mountain biking has reached its maximum expression, with the cadenced rhythm of the wheels on the ground and the spectacular passages, interspersed with technicalities, for all levels of pedaling. Freeride has been added since 2015, thanks to the lifts that allow the transport of bikes for gravity disciplines. Mayor Leandro Bonucchi explains: "Montecreto is synonymous with cycling, because it is the essence of Monte Cimone: nature, greenery and sport are part of our DNA and we want to share our resources with all passionate bikers like us".
Pippo Marani is co-organizer of this historic national gathering, thanks to his volcanic spirit and ability to interpret the territory by tracing routes that enhance mountain bike fun: "This year's surprise will be the new trails, both for those who pedal that for those who love enduro and downhill: routes of varying length and degree of difficulty, even with the special only for women". It is in fact called "Only Girls in the Club" the initiative dedicated only to women, which aims to promote the culture of two wheels also to those approaching the mountain bike for the first time. Pippo is also the curator of the 2 km gravity course "Pino Solitario", where the classic competition of downhill “Stay Strong Walter 7”, dedicated to the Parma biker Walter Belli, who suffered a serious injury in 2014.
For children it will be a weekend of discovery, full of many activities: from the age of two, with the "Balance Bike Kid" which will offer a path dedicated to the little ones on push-bikes (bikes without pedals), up to the "BMX Baby Camp ”by Alex Barbero, designed for ages 7, with special lessons by the famous bmx rider. The pump track test, the “Bad Boy Trail” and the fantastic inflatable “Big AirBag” will be unmissable appointments.
The routes will be enlivened by the various refreshment points, a crucial moment of encounter with the gastronomic culture of Monte Cimone. Even the evening will be dedicated to the typical specialties of the mountain area, to warm up the palate and body before the most goliardic evening of the summer, animated by the freestyle evolutions of Alex Barbero and the warm notes of the Funky Party!
Funky Day 2016 will be held in Montecreto (MO) on 18-19 June: all organizational information relating to participation and hospitality costs are published on the event website: www.funkyday.it.
