Lower Moravia hosted the Czech marathon championship on Saturday: the new champions are Milena Kalašová (K3 Performance) and Jaroslav Kulhavý (Česká spořitelna Accolade), who wins the fourth national champion jersey.
The Elite competed on a 90km track for 3000m of elevation gain, while the women's course featured one less climb, with 81km for 2500m of elevation gain.
At the start of the race, Marek Rauchfuss (Česká spořitelna Accolade) sets the pace, alone in the lead at the 10th kilometer with one minute ahead of Martin Stošek (Canyon Northwave) and Filip Adel (Superior Team). Further behind Lubomír Petruš (RE2Mont Merida), Jaroslav Kulhavý and Karel Hník (RE2Mont Merida).
At the first refreshment we see the retirement of the reigning national champion, namely Jan Strož.
Halfway through the race, Martin Stošek off Mark Rauchfuss but behind the pursuers they did not give up with a threatening Jaroslav Kulhavý always present. At 25km from the finish, Kulhavy picks up the pace and hooks up with Martin Stosek. It is therefore a 2-man fight that is decided in the sprint, where Stosek, thanks to a slip on the final lawn, is unable to respond to the final assault from Kulhavy.
"It is a very valuable title", Reports Kulhavy,"due to the difficulty of the track ... I have many titles, I really appreciate it, but I think nothing will change my decision to end my career at the end of the season".
Of course, a little thought about the XCM European Championship (19 June in the Czech Republic) is legitimate. And, dreaming big, why not: on September 17th there is the World Cup in Denmark.
Disappointment at the arrival of silver Martin Stošek, but satisfied with the performance and did not call his final fall unfortunate, but part of the fight for the title: being faster at the exit. If I hadn't fallen there, I would have finished second anyway. It was a risk that didn't work.
In the elite women's category, Milena Kalašová triumphed, followed by reigning champion Adéla Holubová (kola-bbm.cz), third Lenka Fridrichová (Head Eleven CST).
"Today's race was very demanding for me, the rain we encountered in the second part of the race made everything more difficult. I got stuck and my goal was just to finish the race. Second place is still a bit disappointing, I went to defend Lower Moravia, but today Milena was stronger and the title deserved it“, said the silver Adéla, whose main discipline is the cross country.
