The path that will be made available to Elban and tourists will be the one that winds along a network of 4 paths that cross the granite areas, close to Monte Perone, above the village of San Piero and Sant'Ilario.
The Municipal Administration of Campo has decided to entrust the construction of the Bike Park to the West Elbe Cycling Society after having approved the project and approved the contribution they had requested. "This is a first step for the enhancement and enhancement of the entire network of trails in the area that I manage - has explained the Mayor Davide Montauti -. Let's start with an initiative promoted by these mountain bike enthusiasts, but we will also involve other associations, urging them to present projects for the recovery and use of the entire trail network. Not just biking but all those outdoor activities that can be declined along our paths. The nature that surrounds us is a precious asset. Outdoor tourism is functional to the tourist model that we hope for the future of our territory and responds to the protection needs of the natural, historical and archaeological heritage that characterizes those areas ".
The territory covered by the Bike Park project is that identified in the Piane al Canale area which is located between the Perone and the village of San Piero. The paths that will be affected by the project of the West Elba company are 107, 111, 124 and path 135. The interventions have also been given the go-ahead by the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. "This is a dream come true - he said with satisfaction the President of West Elba Alessandro Galli -We started in the early 2000s to take care of the tracks we used with our bikes through small projects presented at the Park. Now we have obtained the authorization from the Authority together with the support of the Municipal Administration which immediately accepted our proposal and granted us the necessary contribution to get started. We had perseverance, patience and dedication and now here we are at the beginning of our adventure. ".
But what will the first interventions be?
“We will begin to trace four routes that connect San Piero and Sant'Ilario to Monte Perone with a maintenance plan that will allow them to be used throughout the year. For the future we have many initiatives to realize and we hope to be able to carry them out together with the Municipality and the National Park. Our goal is to expand the network of trails, install columns for e-bikes and "workshop stations" which are nothing more than small wooden cabinets in which bikers can find tools necessary for unexpected repairs. As a last dream to be realized but of primary importance to be able to find a seat for our association. In the meantime, however, we have made a dream come true! ”.
