The second day of FSA Bike Festival - Garda Trentino, restarted this year after the forced stop due to the pandemic, in a new date and location with the 27a edition. The decidedly favorable weather has favored a strong influx of visitors who populated theexpo area throughout the day, accompanying with an ideal climate i 1.000 participants at the start today, Saturday 16 October, of SCOTT Bike Marathon, the most anticipated race of the Festival which included three routes of varying difficulty – Ronda Piccola, Ronda Grande and Ronda Extrema.
Elite athletes specializing in long distances gave a show by competing on the most demanding track, the Extreme Round, With its 82,77 km e 3.484 meters of total altitude difference, departing from the historic center of Riva del Garda until you reach the highest point in Malga Valbona (1.433 meters above sea level), to then return to Riva.
In the men's field, the race was won for the second consecutive edition from the 33-year-old German Sasha Weber (Trek-Vaude), showing up at the finish line later 3 hours 55 minutes and 37 seconds, with an advantage of seven minutes on the Swiss Hansueli Stauffer and nine on the Austrian teammate, Karl Markt. "Despite the cold this morning, I concentrated all my strength on winning first place: achieving this for the second time in a row is truly fantastic.".
The women's race, on the other hand, saw the Austrian phenomenal triumph Mona Mitterwallner (Trek-Vaude). Her CV speaks for her: at only 19, she is in fact the Tyrolean Elite World Champion in the Marathon category – the title won a few weeks ago on the Island of Elba – and holder of the world title also in cross country among the Under 23s.
Mitterwallner crossed the line in 4 hours, 51 minutes and 17 seconds, with a 7-minute margin on the Lithuanian Sosna Katazina, further away the German Paulina Wörz to complete the podium. "I spontaneously decided to compete in this competition and I am very happy to have done it, not only for the victory but also because this area is truly fantastic and has all the characteristics to be the ideal area for mountain biking".
Tomorrow, Sunday, October 17, last day of the Festival - with the village open from 10: 00 to 16: 00. The race is scheduled Enduro, on a completely new track, and the Junior Trophy, the challenge dedicated to little bikers who can test themselves and live a unique experience on two wheels.
