Lake Iseo and Franciacorta hosted the 17th edition of the GimondiBike, the granfondo named after Felice Gimondi, cycling legend and President of the Bianchi Countervail team. For the 6th time a foreign athlete wins, and this means the internationality of the competition. In fact, to excel, is Stephane Tempier, a very strong transalpine athlete who wears the celestial jersey of Team Bianchi, to the happiness of Gimondi.
For the record, the victorious foreigners at Gimondi Bike are: Josè Hermida (2003), Julien Absalon (2006), Fredrik Kessiakoff (2007), Leonardo Paez (2013) and Stephane Tempier (2016 and 2017). Marco Aurelio Fontana was also present, finishing in 7th place.
The fight was tough throughout the race and was decided in the final descent where, a small mistake, cost a lot to Fabian Rabensteiner who lost those few meters that were enough for Stephane Tempièr to win. Final time: 1 hour 27 '08 ”with Fabian Rabensteiner just behind. After a minute Michele Casagrande also arrived and completed the day's podium.
Followed by Failli, Porro and De Cosmo and then there was the sprint between Fontana and Cominelli, 2 old friends on the XC fields who find themselves in the Granfondo world.
The women's race was signed for the first time by the Tuscan Maria Cristina Nisi, Italian marathon champion who runs for the Bike Innovation Focus Pissei Team. Behind her, Chiara Teocchi and Lisa Rabensteiner (Fabian's sister).
