The third edition of the Red Bull Formation kicks off the “spectacular” progression of MTB in pink. After the first two events took the sport to exciting new heights in women as well, the third event saw 12 of the best female athletes on the planet chosen by the judges to carve out exciting new lines in Utah.
From May 8-15, Bergemann, Nogueira, Goomes, Casey Brown, Chelsea Kimball, Georgia Astle, Harriet Burbidge-Smith, Louise Ferguson, Sam Soriano, Vaea Verbeeck, Vinny Armstrong and Vero Sandler dug bold lines along the dusty path before of freeride down the mountain.
There were three days of digging, one day off - where they built communities in each other and three days of cycling, where the mountain hosted the dirtiest women's freeride MTB ever.
Founding organizer Katie Holden revealed: “The progression we have seen has been spectacular and truly marks a turning point for women's freeride mountain biking. We found a tremendous amount of confidence from the riders. From tackling steep descents to choosing lines that suited their styles and incorporating tricks, we have achieved an important milestone"
"Winning this award is the perfect conclusion to an epic event" these are the first words of Kiwi Goomes. “My goal was to challenge myself with a bold line, which would test my courage due to its exposure and where I needed to stay calm. I truly believe that all those who drive today have deserved this honor because it is my friends who continue to push and inspire me ”.
Kiwi Goomes' historic back flip line started at the top of Scissor Drop, then crossed the spectator line to end up in the Snake Pit, the bottom of the course that has a series of jumps. - Other highlights of the event included Bergemann and Nogueira tackling a highly technical entry from the mountain top that fueled a series of large exposed falls while rookie Ferguson had full authority of her line for her first time on challenging terrain.
