What started out as a normal race day ended up requiring two surgeries to heal an aneurysm in his brain. Luckily everything went right.
Saturday 3 I started my day in Pietra Ligure like any other. I felt quite relaxed and ready for a big day. I remember going up to the second stage motivated and in a good mood. It started out pretty good and I could tell I was going slightly faster as I got closer to the end. I was enjoying that feeling. As I got somewhere halfway through, I suddenly started to notice that something was wrong. My ears started ringing and sort of popped…
Everything got pretty blurry, I couldn't control my bike but I managed to close the PS. All I could do was lie down and face what was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life. I was lucky enough to have a great team of doctors nearby and in less than an hour I was in the neuroscience emergency room of the Pietra Ligure hospital where they discovered I had a brain aneurysm.
I needed two surgeries over the weekend and another one two days ago but so far the doctors are 100% sure I will make it and get back to a normal life. I have to stay another week in the hospital under close surveillance to make sure everything runs smoothly, the spirit is improving little by little and I can't wait to get out soon… – Iago Garay
