What is South Tyrol - Südtirol Xtreme bike trail?
This is the first adventure in complete self-sufficiency on a mountain bike that takes place in South Tyrol. The formula is very simple: you sign up, you receive a track to upload to the GPS, you get on the saddle and follow the track to the end! Each participant is free to follow the pace he prefers and to stop where and when he wantsand to eat and sleep. There are those who prefer to stop very little and even pedal all night and those who choose to have fun with friends enjoying the views, having lunch in typical restaurants and sleeping in comfortable guesthouses, those who leave only with a windproof jacket and sleep a few hours on a bench and those who leave with a fully equipped bike, sleeping in a tent. There is no time limit and the challenge is not against others, but only against yourself! Along the way, everyone will have to solve every problem that arises, both mechanical and physical, on their own, without any help from the organization or from friends or family.
This type of adventure was born in America a few years ago, and now also in Italy and South Tyrol you can try to win the challenge against yourself!
The route crosses all of South Tyrol from west to east, from Ortles to the Dolomites, from Val Venosta to Val Pusteria. In all, there are 500 km and 12000 meters in altitude. The track tries to join most of the funniest and most scenic trails in South Tyrol. Where it is not possible to follow the paths, you can take forest roads immersed in dense woods or along rivers and lakes, otherwise you cycle along asphalted cycle paths or secondary roads with little traffic. The views are fabulous and range from the Ortles glaciers to all the Dolomites, and you can also pass through all the historic centers of the main cities of the province.
The collective departure is scheduled from Malles on 11 July 2015, while the arrival will be at the Olympia campsite in Dobbiaco. Outside of this date, everyone will be free to sign up to make single departures on the day they prefer, the Alto Adige Südtirol Xtreme bike trail is in fact designed as a permanent route. The route is designed to be perfectly connected by the railway network, both for the departure from Malles and for the return from Dobbiaco to Bolzano and Malles, and for any mechanical or physical problems, the trail often passes near the railway stations, from where you can, in a short time, reach the most important cities.
Once the adventure is over, each participant must send the track recorded with the GPS to the organization, which will check the route taken and will send each finisher a certificate of participation with the time taken.
