The sun on Saturday kissed Funky Day 2016, bringing double the number of mountain bike enthusiasts to Montecreto compared to last year. The Monte Cimone season is officially open, with the chairlifts at full capacity and many itineraries to discover in the green of nature in the Apennines.
Funky Day grows and doubles the numbers: over 2016 bikers attended the 400 edition, many of whom chose the weekend formula to enjoy two days of pure mountain biking, filling up the accommodation facilities and pouring out onto the splendid paths of Montecreto. Monte Cimone was the scene of two days of fun on two wheels, with the big names in the downhill Italian, Giovanna Bonazzi and Bruno Zanchi, and the spectacular bmx of Alessandro Barbero.
Saturday was illuminated by a pleasant sun that warmed the hearts and muscles of the many fans of cross country and enduro: the guided tour in the morning brought about a hundred members to discover the breathtaking views of Montecreto and Sestola, with a due gastronomic stop in the enchanting village of Magrignana. The afternoon saw i downhillor compete in the "Stay Strong Walter 7", the race in honor of the biker Walter Belli, to remember that even the most serious injuries do not stop the fire of a great passion (ed, won by our tester Davide Finetto in the men's field and Giovanna Bonazzi in the women's field).
The Funky Party has transformed the evening into a white night, with the suggestive historic center of Montecreto made entirely pedestrian to give space to the party animated by music, local food and wine and the incredible evolutions of the Kobra Team of Alex Barbero, international icon of freestyle bmx, which again this year has brought its 20 years of experience to the top to leave the audience speechless between backflips and extreme rotations.
The volatile weather on Sunday did not curb the enthusiasm and, after the early morning rain, the activities took place as planned, with a guided tour of about 25 km on the Berceto. The goliardic awards for the best categories followed downhill, sympathy and participation, with an honorable mention to Giovanna Bonazzi and Bruno Zanchi, who celebrated 25 years since their first UCI world title. Closing the Funky Day dances was the bmx show of the Kobra Team, which once again managed to enchant the spectators, giving a boost of adrenaline to all those present.
The summer season of Monte Cimone has been officially inaugurated, the chairlifts will remain open every weekend until September with a single ticket valid for all the Sestola and Montecreto lifts.
