THE ACCIDENT IN 2021
Gioele De Cosmo together Simone Avondetto, his teammate and 2 of the most promising Italian bikers, on 11 June 2021 they were on their way to Austria to compete in the 3rd stage of the World Cup in Leogang when they were involved in a chain collision on the A4 Turin -Milan, just before Desenzano del Garda (BS). The car in front caught fire.
The two Piedmontese athletes of the then Trek Pirelli (now Wilier Pirelli) had managed to get out of the car in time and save themselves. Stunned they watched everything they had inside burned, including their precious bikes. Gioele De Cosmo, on that occasion, sprained his ankle, in addition to the classic whiplash.
