Ketchum, ID (June 24, 2014) - Since 1965, Smith has pioneered new products through design and development that evolve with the aim of researching next-generation outdoor applications. From the first thermal ski mask to the redefinition of helmet structure, Smith continues to create dynamic innovations that maximize performance, protection and design.
As the needs of the next generation of athletes continue to grow, Smith is thrilled to introduce the most complete road helmet on the market: the Overtake. Paying attention to protection, aerodynamics, ventilation and lightness, Smith has created a protection system that allows riders to enjoy the ride more, over and over again. For Smith, experience is everything.
At only 250 grams of ultra-light weight, the Overtake offers the best level of protection and maximum ventilation thanks to its AEROCORE ™ structure featuring Koroyd® - a sequence of cylindrical polymers that absorb 30% more energy than the traditional polystyrene. Unlike the design of traditional helmets, the use of the Koroyd guarantees a greater ventilated surface with a better management, strongly concentrated of the air flow. Furthermore, its use allows the reduction of the helmet profile, ensuring unique benefits in terms of aerodynamics.
The best aerodynamics of the Overtake originated from the design that exploited Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and was finally validated through tests in the wind tunnel. By partnering with the FASTER wind tunnel and world-renowned aerodynamics expert Len Brownlie, Smith has compared the Overtake to the best helmets on the market using the new WAD (Average Wind Resistance) methodology. The result: In real-world conditions, the Overtake's aerodynamics are nearly identical to the industry-leading road helmet but boast superior ventilation, lower weight and total protection.
Additional features are 21 vents developed to optimize aerodynamic performance without compromising ventilation, Smith's 360 ° VaporFit ™ fitting system and the latest generation integration between helmet and goggles. Starting with Smith's historic head form and investing in specific tool sets we have created three different adult sizes to accommodate the greatest number of fits and with 12 different progressive color options we offer a wide range of style choices.
Selected colors of the Overtake offer the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS®) to reduce rotational forces to the brain during impacts. The improved protective qualities of Smith's AEROCORE helmets combined with the MIPS system provide the most comprehensive protection product available in the world.
The Overtake (RRP 250 €, 310 € with MIPS system) will debut at Eurobike from 27 to 30 August in Friedrichshafen (Stand B2-403) and at Interbike from 10 to 12 September in Las Vegas (Stand 11125) together with the rest of the Smith Bike 2015 collection which includes the Forefront, the Maze and the new Axle. The entire Smith Bike 2015 collection will be available in stores in late autumn 2014.
